As some of you may know I have followed Werder Bremen football team for almost 25 years (although its a bit far to travel to The WeserStadium from Alicante. And as I am sure you will guess I hate X or Twitter as it used to be called, since Musk has treated it like a plaything for his rabid politics.
So I was delighted to hear that Werder Bremen have become the second Bundesliga club to quit social media platform X, following St. Pauli’s decision to jump to the Bluesky platform. Werder's German account had almost 540,000 followers, with their English account amassing just over 37,000 followers. “Under the guise of freedom of expression, hate speech, hatred towards minorities, right-wing extremist posts and conspiracy theories have been allowed to spread on X at an incredible pace,” the club said in a post in English.
The “recent radicalization” of X meant “a line has been crossed,” Werder said.
